Our Project - Notre projet

Our United Church congregation decided to make the Côte Church building its permanent home.  However, the current structure had no insulation, structural issues, and many barriers to access.  Our goal is to rebuild an accessible church with increased floor space, while keeping the same appearance that was there since 1903.

See the story below as we proceed.

For more information, see details.

Complete CeilingToday there has been more progress as the ceiling, protected by vapour barrier, has been installed on the north side of the building, completing the ceiling installation.  Next steps will include small roof truss and insulation.

Work on the roof can only be done when there is no chance of rain.  Today was such a day - half of the ceiling installed, and then vapour barrier on top of that.  Truss, insulation and roof will follow.

March 27 afternoon

eThis was a big day!  All of the timber truss were installed with both specialists from Jackson Hill and our contractor Anomali Design were working on site and all the truss (five) were installed, along with the rest of the timber structure.

The next step - for which dry weather is required - is the installation of the ceiling.

TTruss bases installedhis photo was taken just before the end walls were raised.  You can see the base section of the truss (dark, curved wood).  On the floor, you can see the back wall - and in the distance, the front wall as well.

North WallIf you drove by you would notice the north wall is now also in place.  What is less obvious is the  wall lying on the floor -framed for the west wall.  It is good to see the progress!

The second photo is of roof truss.  These are not the main load-bearing truss - you will see those soon - these go above the load-bearing truss and support the final roofing while allowing plenty of space for insulation.

Full wall from interiorProgress can be seen and unseen - in this photo, one sees the complete south exterior wall.  What one does not see if one is driving by is that the north wall is framed and lying on the floor, ready to be put up.  Also - "hidden" work includes verification of the stained glass windows that will be going into the east wall (towards the Cote Cemetery).

The square opening on the right is for the elevator.

Truss in construction

Just a short note - recently two of our committee members went to visit Jackson Hill Timber Frame where our roof truss are being constructed.  These truss have no nails or bolts.  They are pre-assembled in the shop, then taken apart for transportation and re-assembled in place.  These truss will be installed in early March.

First Wall Section

Following back-to-back snowstorms, the first operation was snow clearing from the floor!  But now we are happy to see the first section of wall go up!  Weather looks better for the coming week.
